I have very fond memories of my first ever telescope when I was a kid - and of course it was a 60mm Tasco. 965 to 1.25" converyor so I can give it a run on a modern mount with modern EPs and see how it fares but I have so much on it nit a project that will mature quickly. I keep meaning to get a calshell so I can mojnt it on an HEQ5 and a. Its optics are very good and in a more limited role with more modern EPs it would probably be cracking. I have often considered converting my unitron to a solar scope. Optically the EPs and scope are very good but probably no better than a modern achro. It all adds up to a lot of grief in actual use. Some of the Polarex EPs focus massively far apart from the others. So when you swap EPs you have to unlock the focus tube lock, manually push the tube in or out unyil its close to focus and then use the focus knob for find focus. The EPs are about as non parfocal as you could ever make them. The focuser is a horror all to itself.the focus tube extends about 12" but the focuser only has enough travel to gake the tube maybe an inch and a half. The finder is a joke, it looks tres cool but woeks about as well as a bog roll tube. John, the optics on the Unitrons are good but like most scopes of their day they are undermounted, well mine is anyway. Thank the Lord for the Chinese for bringing us quality optics at a decent price. I took my Unitron out once, never again, all the horrors of 1970s telescopes came back to life the buffs can say what they like about how brilliant the optics were but they probably like steam trains, trams, folk music and everything else that rightly died out 50 years ago. Think its the 7TE thats the one that Tasco buffs like a lot. Some of Tascos stuff from when they actually sold good hardware is quite colectible. The Oasis, on the other hand, weighs 4.6 ounces. Hardcover books can be heavy, though: the last hardcover novel I read before I bought my first kindle weighed 2.8 pounds! The Aura One isn’t like that-at 8.1 ounces, it’s about the same weight as the Kindle Paperwhite. The extra reading space isn’t necessary, per se, but it does feel luxurious. There’s more text on the screen and you need to turn the page much less frequently. The end result is that reading a book on an Aura One feels like reading a hardcover, while reading on a Kindle feels like reading a paperback. That’s the same resolution as all but the cheapest of Amazon’s Kindles, but it’s a much larger screen-the Kindle screens are all only 6 inches diagonal. So, although there is likely a group of people happy to see Microsoft abandon their own browser engine and move to Chromium, for the web it is not necessarily a net positive to see so much consolidation. One dominant platform or another has tended to be the one to drive developers to utilize new features that may not yet be ratified as web standards, or not yet supported by other browsers. What this means is that the web landscape, despite being open thanks to a standards body, has never felt as open as it could have been. Microsoft had the shoe on the other foot with the rise of mobile computing, where Webkit was the predominant browser thanks to Apple’s Safari browser on iOS, and Google using Webkit as the basis for Chrome as well. But that was certainly not the only time that has happened. Internet Explorer has been a dominant feature of business and enterprise intranet sites, to the point where Microsoft is still forced to include and update their ancient browser even as they would like to move on. Most readers will likely remember the days of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 6 dominance, where websites would often only work in IE 6 thanks to heavy use of ActiveX.
